Library of Hope has just opened

Miss Thanh from SVA writes the following;

            “I am glad to share with you a brief note concerning the charity library at the Truyen Tin Orphanage sponsored by the Solvay Vietnam Alumni Club (SVA).  In just 2 months, SVA raised 83,000,000 VNĐ (~4,000 USD) in cash and donations in the form of books, stationary, furniture, and a computer. On 23rd January 2011, the grand-opening of the Library of Hope was a blast. Many volunteers and donors participated in guiding the children in how to use the library. I could see smiles on their faces.

              Thanks to the donation of tables and chairs from Akzonobel company, and books from book publishing houses (Fahasa, Oxford, Van Nghe, Tre, My Thuat, Kim Đong), the total cost for the project was only 23,000,000 VNĐ (~1,100 USD )leaving SVA with extra funds for other future libraries and vocational projects.

              The Library of Hope at the Truyen Tin Orphanage now has 2,000 books of all categories, such as: course books, reference books, novels, short stories, periodicals, and comic books to name a few. In addition, it has an internet-connected computer, a color printer, a TV and a DVD machine. The library will be open 4 hours a day on weekdays and 6 hours a day on weekends. “

As you can see from the photos, it is a very good set up. The members of SVA spent a lot of their free time sorting out the books by category, labeling each book and setting up the library in a very child-friendly way. Miss Thanh told me that many publishers and bookstores were very happy to help for this cause. Of course Miss Cu and the orphans are very thrilled to have a nice library right in their home. This is just the beginning!
